Vietnam Proposes Linking Crypto Accounts with VNeID: A Pivotal Moment for Digital Asset Regulation
During a National Assembly briefing on November 4, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang revealed that a draft of the Law on Identification and Electronic Authentication proposes requiring crypto asset trading accounts to be linked with VNeID, the national electronic identification system.
If passed, this regulation will mark a key step toward bringing cryptocurrency activities into an official regulatory framework. By strengthening account holder verification, authorities can more effectively curb fake accounts, fraud, and money laundering.(Vietnam Crypto Exchange)
However, the impact extends beyond regulatory compliance. Exchanges and investors will need to adapt to stricter identity verification standards. While this could boost institutional confidence and facilitate capital flows, it has also raised concerns regarding privacy and data security.
It is worth noting that this proposal remains in the draft stage and has not yet been enacted into law.
