Can Altcoins Be Traded on Vietnam Crypto Exchange?
Recently, as the preparation process for local cryptocurrency exchanges in Vietnam advances, many investors have begun to wonder whether assets such as altcoins will be eligible for compliant trading in the future.

According to representatives from the State Securities Commission’s (UBCKNN) market management division, under the current pilot resolution framework, the authority to select and list crypto assets for trading is delegated to the operating institutions of compliant exchanges. In the initial stage, regulators encourage platforms to prioritize globally popular crypto assets with high liquidity to ensure safety and stability during the market’s launch phase.
Currently, no official white-list or hard blacklist specifying permitted tokens has been released. This means that whether altcoins can be traded on local compliant Vietnamese exchanges will largely depend on the future token-listing standards, liquidity assessments, and compliance alignment of the operating entities themselves.

Along with the licensing process, whether popular assets like Bitcoin will be listed on domestic exchanges is also a matter of concern for many investors.
Mr. Hoa stated that Resolution No. 05 grants exchange operators the right to choose which crypto assets to list and trade. The regulatory body encourages these entities to prioritize globally popular and highly liquid assets to ensure safety during the initial deployment phase.
There is currently no official list of tokens that will be allowed to be traded on the pilot platforms.
Regarding unlisted crypto assets held by investors, a representative from the State Securities Commission stated that users can transfer them through licensed service providers in Vietnam. All such transactions must be reported to the authorities as required by regulations.
The establishment of a regulated trading market is being considered in the context of Vietnam remaining one of the most vibrant crypto markets in Southeast Asia.
Data from Chainalysis’s latest report shows thatVietnam recorded approximately $122.2 billion. The value of cryptocurrency activity between July 2025 and June 2026 ranks second in Southeast Asia after Singapore. This figure includes various activities, from centralized exchange trading, DeFi, P2P trading to stablecoins and cross-border flows, and not just the volume of transactions on exchanges.
In the 2026 global crypto adoption ranking, Vietnam ranked 18th, a significant drop from its 4th position in 2025. This change stems from Chainanalysis’s methodology shifting its focus to measuring actual user activity, transactions between wallets, and the amount of assets held on-chain.
The large market size also necessitates stricter management of cash flows, customer assets, and cross-border transactions. Over the past period, Vietnam has gradually built a legal framework through…Law on Digital Technology Industry, the pilot mechanism in Resolution No. 05 and related regulations on accounting, taxation, and reporting obligations.
However, for these regulations to be implemented in a real trading market, participating businesses still need to improve their security systems, customer asset management, transaction monitoring, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Therefore, May 2027 will be a crucial milestone to assess the progress of businesses participating in the pilot program, aiming to bring the Vietnamese crypto market into a clearer legal framework and strengthen investor protection.
