Latest updates on the launch of cryptocurrency exchanges in Vietnam

Vietnam needs more non-bank capital channels.

At Conviction 2026, Dr. Nguyen Hai Nam, Standing Member of the National Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee, argued that Vietnam needs to restructure its capital channels to serve its high growth targets, instead of relying too heavily on bank credit.

Besides stocks, bonds, long-term investment funds, and green finance, digital assets could become a new fundraising channel if they are placed within a transparent and controlled framework.

According to Chainalysis data presented at the event, Vietnam has approximately 17 million accounts related to digital assets , with an estimated asset flow of around $220 billion .

Mr. Nam believes that real asset tokenization (RWA) can help connect assets within the economy with international capital, especially in international financial centers such as Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Vietnam crypto exchange

Five businesses have been approved in principle.

Mr. To Tran Hoa, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Cryptocurrency Trading Market Management Board under the State Securities Commission, said that five businesses have been approved in principle to prepare for the establishment of cryptocurrency exchanges .

However, businesses still need to fulfill many conditions before being officially licensed, including a technology system that meets security level 4 standards, transaction, payment, reporting, and brokerage procedures, and capital requirements.

Specifically, businesses must have a minimum charter capital of 10,000 billion VND .

Therefore, there is currently no specific date for when the Vietnamese cryptocurrency market will officially begin operations .

The legal framework must go hand in hand with investor protection.

Lawyer Phan Vu Tuan argues that Vietnam needs to clearly distinguish between businesses providing blockchain technology infrastructure and entities directly providing crypto asset services, avoiding equating these two groups.

He also proposed researching mechanisms for tokens developed by Vietnamese people, foreign crypto assets that meet standards, and RWA models, including cultural assets and intellectual property .

According to Dr. Nguyen Hai Nam, market development must be accompanied by clear regulations on asset classification, taxation, licensing, cybersecurity, and risk control .

If properly designed, the cryptocurrency market could not only create another trading platform but also expand fundraising channels and support the development of the digital economy in Vietnam .
